The Colman Barbers

Get to know the people behind the scissors

Robert Whorton, Owner/Barber

Coming from a long history of family barbers, the shears are in his blood. Robby started barbering at the Hairstyling Institute of Charlotte NC- A roffler school, now The Kemon Academy. He was taught by a great Greek barber, Kostas Melissaris in the traditional style of barbering, graduating in 1990.  In his early years he worked cutting hair for the Marines and Navy at Cherry Point, USMC in North Carolina.

In 1975 world champion hair stylist Kostas Melissaris looked at the hairstyling profession and understood, “No one person could cut everyone’s hair in the world.” It’s here that he believed that the talent of cutting and styling hair needed to be passed onto the generations. To create this dream, he opened his first hair academy in Charlotte NC, The Hairstyling Institute of Charlotte. Hailing from Athens Greece, Kostas knew that barbering alone would not last long in the U.S., let alone his new home city, thus making his first hair academy a European fashioned hair school.

Paula Saunier, Barber

Paula is glad to be joining The Colman Building Barber Shop after cutting hair for 26 years in the Greater Seattle Area. A barber for 36 years, she graduated from barber school in Ocala, Florida in 1982, moving to Seattle in 1991.  She spent 6 years at the Pike Place Market and over 20 years in the lower Queen Anne area.  Paula is experienced in cutting any kind of hair, and she can give you the haircut you’re used to or help you try a new style.
